1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Brightquill Education Ltd ("we", "us", "our") for the use of the Times Tables Universe app ("the app"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
- Company number: 17239775 (registered in England & Wales)
- Registered address: 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom
- Contact: support@brightquill.co.uk
How we handle personal data is set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
2. Who can use the app
The app is designed for children to practise times tables, but accounts are entered into by adults.
- If you are 16 or over, you may create your own account.
- If you are under 16, an account must be created and managed for you by a parent, guardian, tutor, or school, who accepts these terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use of the app.
- Tutors and schools who create accounts for pupils ("managed pupils") confirm they have the authority and any necessary permission to do so (see Section 6).
3. Your account
Keep your login details (username, password or PIN) secure and do not share them with people who should not have access. You are responsible for activity under your account, and tutors are responsible for the managed pupil accounts they create. Tell us promptly if you think an account has been accessed without permission.
4. Free trial and subscriptions
Individual and tutor accounts start with a 14-day free trial, with no card required. When the trial ends, a subscription is needed to keep practising and saving progress. Current plans are:
- Individual (one learner): £1 / month or £9.99 / year
- Tutor Lite (up to 5 pupils): £1.20 / month or £11.99 / year
- Tutor (up to 20 pupils): £3 / month or £29.99 / year
- Schools (whole-class / whole-school): custom pricing — contact us
The price and billing period shown in the app at the point of purchase are the ones that apply. We may change prices in future; any change will be notified in advance and will not affect the period you have already paid for.
Paid subscriptions are sold and billed through Google Play. They renew automatically for the chosen period unless cancelled, and Google charges the payment method on your Google account. We never see or store your card details.
5. Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel a subscription at any time in the Google Play Store under Payments & subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. To avoid being charged for the next period, cancel at least 24 hours before it starts.
Refunds for purchases made through Google Play are handled under Google Play's refund policy. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law.
6. Tutors and schools
If you use the app to manage pupils, you are responsible for:
- having the authority and any necessary parental or school permission to create and manage pupil accounts;
- the information you enter about pupils (we ask only for a first name and last initial); and
- how you use pupils' progress data within your tutoring or teaching.
Where a school or organisation sets up and manages pupil accounts, the organisation is the data controller for those pupils' personal data and we act as its data processor, under a separate Data Processing Agreement (see the Privacy Policy, Section 10).
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the app for anything unlawful, or to harass, harm or impersonate anyone;
- try to access accounts, data or systems you are not authorised to use;
- copy, resell, rent out or commercially exploit the app or its content without our permission;
- reverse-engineer, decompile or tamper with the app, or attempt to bypass its security or usage limits; or
- use bots, scrapers or other automated means to access the app, or interfere with its normal operation.
8. Our content and brand
The app, its content, design, the "Times Tables Universe" name and the Brightquill brand are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app for its intended educational purpose while these terms apply. Your own data remains yours and is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.
9. Availability and changes to the app
We work to keep the app available and improving, and we may add, change or remove features over time. We may occasionally need to suspend the app for maintenance or for reasons outside our control, and we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.
10. Educational disclaimer
Times Tables Universe is a practice tool to support learning, including preparation for the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Department for Education or any examination body, and we cannot guarantee any particular test result or outcome.
11. Our responsibility to you
We provide the app with reasonable care and skill. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable, or for loss caused by events outside our reasonable control. We do not exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be excluded under UK law — including your statutory rights as a consumer.
12. Suspending or ending access
You can stop using the app at any time. We may suspend or end access if these terms are seriously or repeatedly broken, or where we are required to by law. If we end your access, we will handle your data as set out in the Privacy Policy (including the deletion and retention rules there).
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time and will revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will be notified in the app. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England & Wales, and disputes are subject to the courts of England & Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
